If it's a generic name like that I have less problem with it than if it were called something like the Enniskillen. Still, not very pleasant or respectful.

I'm still curious about a doughnut being called after a car bomb? Cos it makes jammy mess?

There also seems to be a trend to snort your tequila shot off the bar. Very silly.

It makes me feel very out of the loop....I don't know about the donuts or the cocktails!

I want young people to be cross and wanting to change the word...it's the way they're meant to be...

Prominently displayed and advertised in Chicago this year for their St Patricks day celebrations. You know...because they're all Irish apparently.

Clearly none of them have been near an actual car bomb.

I put it down to the ignorance of fools. I was in America after all.

True. It's better out of a belly button - preferably the opposite sex but whatever floats your boat.

Well it's called an Irish Car Bomb in most places I have seen it and involves Irish beer and spirits so I do find it offensive. I recall being out one night and when people heard where I was from they were like "we should do an Irish car bomb!" thinking that might make me feel at home.

I made it quite clear that was pretty damn offensive and a Guinness would be fine..

Well, I guess everyone would be totally disgusted in ordering an Abortion then

a layered drink which takes onboard the characteristics associated with an abortion. The irish cream coagulates (turns to semi-solid) and creates the effect of a fetus, while the Grenadine symbolizes the blood. Some have said this particular recipe for an Abortion tastes like a Chocolate Covered Cherry.
Scale ingredients to servings
1/3 oz peach schnapps
1/3 oz Bailey's® Irish cream
1/3 oz grenadine syrup
Layer into a shot glass in the following order: peach schnapps, irish cream, grenadine. Don't swish, just shoot. As described above, the coagulating of the irish cream combined with the grenadine creates an effect which gives rise to the name Abortion

I worked in bars through university and grad school and it was always somewhat prominent. But I guess my view would be different because working there immersed me in that drinking culture far more deeply than a normal person would be.

Given that I'm from N.Ireland, and a "community background" in N.Ireland that doesn't really pay any attention to St Patricks day, it was all rather weird.

July 12th is the fun one.

Sounds like it would taste like a chocolate covered cherry, but I would call it something other than an abortion..

I have to agree with you here Shard....kids have no right to be rude or offensive as to be quite plain about it....they havent deserved the right to be...theyre just mere kids, kids who think they know everything and know nothing are intensly irritating. I was always taught to respect my elders and that what i still believe in.

When i was yonger an older colleague said to me when i was being jokingly mouthy with him, two things i cant stand in life....cheeky kids and bad beer, that stuck with me, becuase its true!

As for car bomb drinks/doughnuts....havent heard of any except for the Irish car bomb....i personally dont find that offesnsive as its more of a generic refererence, but im sure i would feel very differently if a close friend or family member had been murdered in such a way. Horses for courses really...and what effects the individual in their life. There will always be jokes made of peoples misfortunes, its human nature.

That's awful! What kind of sick twisted mind would come up with a name like that?
