I can't say I know anything of the Conservative party contenders but aren't they irrelevant to Canadian politics? Trudeau is young, he could be in power for fifty years, these contenders will be long dead before they have a chance at power.

Mark Carney is steering The Old Lady of Threadneedle Street (on the wrong side of the street), and Tim Hortons are now opening up in the UK....perhaps even a stall in the house of commons!!. So some Canadian value products are being exported!! But still, other than the social requirements of a Timmie per day and perhaps the gait of an ice hockey player, everything else is enshrined in law. Are the laws not being applied? eh?

Even with their aphorisms Canadians are unoriginal.

I have a coffee mug (no, not that one) emblazoned on one side;

"How can you tell a Geordie" and on the other;

"Ye divn't. He canna be tellt."

Pre-fixed on edit. It's already dark here. I should light the candles.

Today was a lovely day in Newcastle (or it was when I got back here at about 2 pm) having spent Thursday in York visiting the Minster, the Treasurers House and the Theatre Royal in the evening and then Friday visiting the Goddards, Fountains Abbey and the Studley Royal water gardens then this morning a visit to the Mount Grace Priory on the way home.

The Fog on the Tyne is a ditty composed by Alan Hull, a former friend of mine and the force behind the group Lindesfarne.

It's good to be home.

I don't know if this law is still on the books but did you see any of our Scottish cousins in York and not on a Sunday?
In York, it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow.

As Dr. Johnson said " Much can be made of a Scotsman if he be caught young enough".

I did see a Canadian though. It was embarrassing.

Nice tune! I'll take my laptop to the club with me the next while and when she comes in I''ll play that for my Novocastrian friend in the wheelie-chair, she'll probably love hearing Geordie again. We've done the virtual tour of her landmarks with her driving the little gold street-view man but a lot has changed since she left.
