How come the only person to win a gold medal for Canada was overlooked to be the flag bearer and the honor given to a third rate woman soccer player

Because she has inspired 1,000 of soccer playing girls all over Canada. I don't know the name of the gold medal winner without looking her up on Google, but I know who the captain of the Canadian Woman soccer team is.

You would have to be a real sourpuss to begrudge Christine Sinclair her moment in the spotlight after 12+ year representing her nation with notable success at the highest level (143goals in 190 appearances).
Personally Id settle for a bronze medal, how many Golds do you have then?

Years of service to the cause are often taken into account in these honours too. Seems like a storm in a teacup to me, either would be a fine choice and someone is going to be disappointed.

Or Lesley Thomson who represented Canada in rowing, and has won 5 medals over 5 olympics?
I don't think Sinclair should have carried the flag. Unfortunately the more successful, and longer standing representatives missed out

But what about the Horse Jumpng fellow who's represented his country for 40 years (his 10th Olympics), and won a better medal than Sinclair?
