Canadian experiences...

Getting up at 8am to fill the 3/4 ton with deisel fom a tank in your own yard.
Driving to a friends farm (45 mins away) to collect the steer you raised for the last couple of years (but had to go elsewhere cos he kept escaping) and a big long stock hauler.
Loading a steer into the hauler using 2 hockey sticks, some kicks and finally a winch on a quad.
Driving said trailer (first time ever towing) to the abatoire (50 mins away) and reversing it up to the chute.
Using an electric cattle prod to offload the steer.
Driving home I thought - if this isn't a Canadian experience I don't know what is.
Here's some pics (i'm very proud of myself for not causing a multivehicle pile up
) of mum in law and friend who we borrowed the trailer from getting the steer in while I p**s about taking pics!!!!!)

We ate in, what is possibly, Halifax's currently trendiest restaurant last week (Somebody else's treat).
The waiting staff & food were passable (Hardly a revelation) but the other diners were bizarre. We were surrounded by the great & the good of Halifax, wealthy & what passes for well dressed, & they behaved like spoiled, ill mannered kids..
It was a surreal experience akin to being surrounded by pigs dressed as people.
I kept expecting Terry Gilliam to jump out & yell cut...

someone mentioned earlier re indoor and outdoor shoes for kids at school, we have that here is NS too
friends dropping by and coming in the back door that's always open
a friend or neighbour will do anything to help you in return for beer and/or food
Son going our fishing on the lake nearby with a friend who had made the boat himself
leftovers for lunch again
fire pits
camping chairs go everywhere

Being overtaken (50 zone, solid yellow lines) by someone while I was letting a porcupine cross the road in front of me.
Watching all the seniors eat teen burgers in A&W.
Listening to the local radio station at around 6:30am and hearing the DJ call someone a "wanker".

This reminded me. Coming home to a note from the neighbour, "borrowed your gun" then hearing bullets bounce off my metal roof while he tried to reduce the population of porcupines in the trees. You don't get a lot of that in NW1.

Really? Some people might try and pull that off, but it's not the norm with anyone I know.

Christmas Lights left up all year round
Spotting the latest fashion trend and seeing everyone wearing it
Canadians not believing that we don't have the genre of country and western music in England
Falling down barns - not converted!
Driving at 120km on the 401 surrounded by a pack of other drivers all doing the same speed for at least an hour
All the service stations being shut on the 401 - why not refurb one at a time?
Big flat back trucks and a rarely a white van to be seen

Driving at 120km and wondering "What's the bloody hold up?"
Saying "oooh, that's a nice barn"
