Odd article.

The majority of newly arriving immigrants are from poorer countries and therefore do not have the resources (largely from property price escalation) when they move to Canada to buy the now desirable and expensive Downtown real estate.

This was different many years ago when Downtown wasn't all that desirable.

That's the summary of the article. It is not too dissimilar to other large cities in the world and not a uniquely Canadian problem.

It should be titled "Middle class white Canadian journalist realises trend in city living that has been going on in the western world for several decades".

No wonder people don't buy papers anymore.

Many born Canadians (as well as immigrants) are pushed out of cities like Vancouver by wealthy foreign buyers. The gentrification of inner city neighborhoods has been going on since at least the 80s.

He also has a dim view of the English:

Yes, the white middle class moving back to gentrify bits of down town started 40 years ago in London...and is just starting here.

London's EastEnd has always been an arrivals lounge for immigrants, it's why we have such good food.

I read the second article and it's worse than the first. Does the G&M really print that stuff? The nature of immigration is not the same as it was last century. Communications and established ethnic communities make things different.

In the first article he sounds like a late adapter. This is marginally successful given he is Canadian and they tend to be a few years behind everyone in most things.

In the second article he is tries desperately to be hard hitting whilst twisting statistics with out providing any analysis or insight into the real meaning of them.

He's completely out of whack with Western Society in the 21st century.
