Re: Can you imagine anyone doing this in Canada?
Hi Guys
I'm new to this site and wanted to get involved in a discussion. I am appalled by the current state of the UK and we are seriously thinking about moving to Canada, mainly Vancouver. The thing with this country starts with the parenting of these kids who commit crime. With regard to that article, had those children been given the occasional "arse whipping" whilst growing up and taught to respect their elders, they would not behave like that in public. I am a mother to a boy (20) and 2 girls (10 and 12) and not once have they ever been naughty or disrespectful. My son in particular, goes out regularly with his mates and has never gotten into trouble or done anything naughly. I don't want to blow my own trumpet or anything but good parenting has everything to do with how my children are today. I didn't even have to smack them a lot. Hubby and I let them know we were in charge from day one. I think children who hang out on street corners getting up to no good should be arrested for loitering along with their parents who allow them on the streets. The UK is fast becoming a toilet. That said, I am currently researching how feasable it would be for us to move to BC. If anyone could throw some light on the immigration process with regard to timing as well as costs, that would be helpful. I have been researching house prices in Vancouver and they are quite pricey. I have a big mortgage here in the UK and with the current housing market, wouldn't have a lot left over if I sold and paid off my mortgage. Would getting a mortgage in Vancouver be difficult? What's the best part of Vancouver to live? Would prefer the suburbs. Don't like cities. What about shipping our belongings? Any ideas on costs / red tape. I have so many questions that I don't know where to start. We also have 2 dogs that we would like to take with us. Haven't applied as yet. Just doing the research at the moment. Any replies would be appreciated. Regards Michelle |

Who cares?
Life is too short to argue the toss over the law on over/under taking. Anyway in NB it is nearly irrelevant because there are so few roads with more than one lane each way  |

Re: Can you imagine anyone doing this in Canada?
I seem to have started off on the wrong foot. LOL.
There is a big difference between disciplining your children and beating them. I disciplined mine i.e. the occasional smack on the bum or back of the legs with my hand, just enough to let them know who's in charge. I mainly punish though, at the ages they are at now, I don't need to discipline any more as they know who's the boss. Hope I didn't scare anyone off. |

I am with you on setting the boundaries and there is a HUGEEE difference between beating the kid and reasonable discipline. The problem is that difference is relative to the way you have been disciplined as a young person (did you like that PC switch there?) and that is why there is such a cry of murder when you clip the ear of your well deserving child if all they(those that cry foul) had as a child was a stiff talking too. |
