It does make me laugh how you see regular cars (normally estate cars) towing caravans in the UK, but over here you need a big diesel truck.

Anyway I hate camping, not only is it bloody expensive, it's boring as hell. I cannot think of anything worse than being stuck in a forest for days. I took my kids tent camping when we first arrived in Canada, they were bored within hours. No facebook, no TV, no nothing.

There is a definite class system in camp sites. Tenters are at the bottom, followed by tent trailer families, followed by small trailers, followed by huge trailers, followed by $250k motor homes

I priced out renting a motorhome for a week in July, by the time you include petrol, insurance, campsite fees, food, and all the rest of it, it was cheaper to go for a week in Mexico.

No, I now found my specs with no help with you lot. But, I still hate camping and think the Ritz Carlton or the Four Seasons are much better options.

For once I agree with you. My idea of camping is a black and white TV at one of those illustrious hostelries .

Reminds me of my friend when I told her we were going camping last year and asked did she ever go with her family?

"Oh dear god no, my idea of slummming it, is a hotel without room service"

But seriously folks. I have camped among the rocks on the banks of The Colorado River in The Grand Canyon quite a few times and it's a fabulous experience. The sheer grandeur of it all makes it all worth it.

I've stayed at some great hotels, with magnificent views over the ocean or mountains. And, I can get room service.

I camped along the banks of the Colorado, deep in the Grand Canyon. I had servants take me there by sedan chair.

Saw the thread title and that dbd33 had posted and thought of making a funny related to VW convertables and gay dogs but decided against it.

Back to camping in tents......not something I've done a lot of, but when I do it, I like to go extreme. (See photo)

The gay dog and VW convertible now seem routine. Lately questions have been raised about the inclinations of the cat.

The gay dog has, of course, been camping all over Ontario, in parts of the US and round Cape Breton. For a while I tried to teach him to piss exclusively on RVs but I can't seem to wean him off trees and hydrants.
