Novocastrian is arguing from a position of, um, some considerable strength in this debate. There are several not particularly oblique references on other threads to his impending retirement from a long and illustrious academic career: you might be wise to pause and consider where his speciality lay before commenting further...]

BC's drought map as of June 2nd, a few places in level 2 and 3.
Only 1 day of rain in the forecast for the 15 day forecast, its a bit concerning how little rain we are getting.

San Diego area is getting slammed with rain, summer rain isn't normal. Photo courtesy of my sister.
They broke records yesterday, previous record for Jul 18 was 0.01" of rain which happened in 1922. Yesterday they received 1.03 inches.
It was also the wettest July day ever recorded since records began in 1850.

The storm was the leftovers of Hurricane Delores.

Crazy amounts of rain and hail falling in parts of California. 4-6" in some area's of LA County, that is an insane amount of rain for that area which is why the mudslides and flash flooding occurred. Soil there can't handle that much rain so quickly. October is also not typically a very wet month.

As expected in an El Nino winter, So. California is getting slammed with rain. Too much at once leading to flooding, and flash flood warnings.
