My OH is in construction here and flying over to Calgary next Fri to have a look at the area, find out more info on job availability etc.
Can anyone in or around Calgary provide any useful advice or tips on places/areas best to visit, possible employment agencies to look at or even suggest a place where construction industry expats may contacted for chat/advice?
Any tips/help/info will be gratefully received.

I don't know what kind of construction job your OH is looking for but EllisDon is the company that is working on the new Calgary South Hospital.
Maybe a good place to start?

there is alot of 'house' construction in the north west area; maybe a 'turn - up' on site might be useful. plenty of different house builders......good luck.
also, could try PCL construction, stantec etc etc.......

I would suggest not quitting any jobs at home right now!
I'm not usually pragmatic, I'm usually optimistic, but Alberta just shed thousands of construction jobs.
"Yes," this is short term pain; "Yes," Alberta will boom again.....
You just don't want to arrive and suffer.
I came to Canada with my family in 1981. My dad was in construction. He came just as the ecomony was turning.
He had a great job to come to, but when that ended, because of the Oil-Bust in Calgary, being broke and unemployed in a foreign country "sucked big-time."
Take some time to get things in order, get your ducks in a row. Don't rush in. The circle will turn.

Yep to echo what triumph and steve have already said construction is definitely taking a downturn in Calgary. Recently overheard some guys at a hockey game saying that the plumbing contractors they worked for had laid off one third of the workforce.....

Actually surprisingly well thank you.
All incisions healed this time with no issues, sternum still feels like a truck ran into me, but that has been aggravated by a recent cough. I tire easily still and probably will for a little while yet.
I get to drive again in a week and a half, really looking forward to that.
