Re: Calgary SE ring road delayed
my understanding is it is the section around to Macleoad trail is the problem??..if so why dont they open the section to Glenmore or 114th Street at least?

Re: Calgary SE ring road delayed
Because the province isn't stupid enough to take responsibility for an unfinished road. Don't blame them. I wouldn't take possession of an unfinished house.
This doesn't look encouraging either: http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/ca...671/story.html Obviously the Herald is trying to figure out what is going on too. If they haven't finished by the 15th it's going to start getting rather awkward because of the way contracts are phrased for winter work and insurance, etc. They were still doing ground works last time I drove past and it was well below freezing, which is a very dodgy thing to do. |
Re: Calgary SE ring road delayed
All of the barriers and machinery has been removed from the NE/NW sections which i drive but the tarmac hasn't been finished

Re: Calgary SE ring road delayed
I heard ages ago there was basically no chance it would open on October 1st, well over a year go so I've no idea how they could mislead people to this extent, I kept hearing November 1st because of the hassle caused with the Seton Blvd. exit and the bridge over Deerfoot.
But how can they carry on working in this weather, they need to spread asphalt and there's only one day with a high above 5 C forecast for the next two weeks and that will only be for an hour or two. The steps in the road surface are bad under perfect driving conditions but below freezing it's not funny. |

So basically it's a fudge, they can't finish the paving because of the weather so it's going to open as-is, which means all those steps in the pavement along what was formally 22X at the exits and on-ramps will remain until May probably. Which in essence makes it only partly usable, because there's no way I'd drive through some of those exits with snow and ice on them, you can't see the steps, BANG. I always laugh when they blame the weather, duh, it's Calgary. It was two years ago I heard that October 1st 2013 was completely unrealistic, so apparently a fine of $3.5 million makes more sense than overtime??? And this is comparatively easy compared to the SW section, which is the most important bit! |

Re: Calgary SE ring road delayed
They finished the work on the 22x bridge over Macleod Trail during a very cold spell too. How do they explain that then?:p
I was very pleased as my tyres were taking a real beating travelling over all those bumps. They always seem far more severe than I recall they were in the UK;) |
Re: Calgary SE ring road delayed
I just bought some new tires so no way am I using those ramps until spring.

Re: Calgary SE ring road delayed
I used it today. I went from Deerfoot to Deerfoot on the east side and it was all fine. I don't know how it looks between Deerfoot and Macleod.
