Default British TV set top box - help

http://www.watchbritishtvabroad.com/index.php

I recieved an email about this box to watch British TV abroad. As I am old and blonde I really struggle with these things, so, I wondered if you good folks would have a look, and tell me the pros and cons.

Does it mean that you cant run this and your current cable box at the same time?

Does it totally replace my cable box?

Is it live, therefore making it impossible to watch a lot of things because of the time difference?

The BBC iplayer now has a lot more content available internationally, and of course you can always track down torrents of your favourite shows on sites like isohunt.com and download them using programs like uTorrent which you can download for free.

In most cases now you can plug you computer into your telly and watch shows that way, or else just watch it on the PC.

There are probably more seamless ways too...

When we want to watch British TV I also use VPN. With VPN you connect to the internet through a secure connection via one of their servers in another part of the world.

I have installed this on My Laptop and set my location to London England.

Then I just connect the laptop to my TV and then use the online services provided by most of the major channels in the UK.

I do the same thing when I want to view the US version of Netflix.

Anyone got a link to a free VPN service that actually works consistently?

You couldnt afford me

Go here,
http://www.utorrent.com/
download and install U torrent

then go here
http://isohunt.com/
and search for whatever show you want.

If you find one that has some current "seeders" (people uploading the show) Download the "torrent" details and Utorrent will do the rest.

Then when its finished gathering all the pieces from around the world together hook your telly up to your computer if you can and watch the show via the usual suspects, quicktime, media player or whatever.

The easier alternative is to use a VPN which will make the UK websites think you are located in the UK, and give you direct access to the shows online. But I havent found a reliable free way to do that, hence my asking

Get some on in the U.K to buy one of these for you and set it up in there house.

http://www.myechostar.com/Features.aspx

Ask them to plug it in to there Router and attach it to there sky dish or sat dish

You buy one of these and plug it in to your TV and router in Canada

http://www.amazon.com/Sling-Media-Sl...8831419&sr=8-1

As long as you both have good internet speeds you can watch TV in canada just like you are in the UK and its freesat so no monthly subs.

Do you use a PC or MAC?

Do you use a PC or MAC?

So, if I read the links correctly it's £299, say $350 in UK and $340 plus taxes/shipping in NA. a pretty expensive setup, don't you think?

If you want british TV, thats the way to do it!

I pay £70 a month for sky HD. This would give you all the UK channels HD and all (apart from sky channels) for a one off fee.

Another way is to use a MacMini and add these applications

http://tvshowsapp.com/

http://www.boxee.tv/signup

You tell the tvshows app the shows you like to watch and as soon as there available on the the torrent sites it downloads them.

Then you point the boxee app to your downloads folder or external hard drive and the app is your User Interface. It grabs the meta data for the shows and puts them in to folders for you. Also gives you access to iplayer and netflix and many other IPTV providers. Or just try downloading boxee to your PC to use the IPTV services for now.
