This time I remembered to save the milk and water from poaching so I can use it in clam chowder later.

Oatmeal made with water (with a pinch of salt) and thick enough to cut with a knife (literally) served with 3 teaspoons of extra dark maple syrup and followed by half a slice of wholegrain with 2 ounces of cottage cheese. :D

I don't think I've ever made porridge with anything but water. I think as kids sometimes we added milk and my (adult) stepdaughter does that even now.

We can get Neptunes frozen scottish kippers sometimes.

It was a slightly unconventional breakfast, because I wanted to use up some of the duck from a couple of days ago, so I had duck with mushrooms, onions and sliced garlic in black bean sauce with pot sticker dumplings and udon noodles. It was supper time in Japan, so not altogether wrong, I suppose.
