I think people are reading way too much into this, and compared to the media bombardment to be thin, its really a drop in the bucket. Thats before you even get into the whole casual porn society argument.

She can dress her dolls however she wants to, I dont see any harm, but ultimately for the next many years we will have the last say in what she wears.

For the first 3 years we never inflicted gender related stuff on her, she was happy to have short hair and was into "Bob the Builder", but as soon as she hit nursery school that went out of the windows and she decided she would rather have long hair and be a princess and be pretty in pink. You cant dictate these things, sometimes shit just happens. Currently she queens it over about a dozen barbie princesses (plus one brat) and leads them on elaborate imagined adventures, shes even teaching them all to sing.... You just cant micro manage every aspect of their lives.

All you can do is make them aware of the healthy choices, try and set a good example yourself, try and make them media savvy and free thinking (how do you do that with a 5 year old anyway) and trust them and hope for the best.

I know, I get all that, it just goes against the feminist in me.

My hubby has a very interesting film involving Jordan and oneof her many Boyfriends:sneaky:

My daughter liked Bratz dolls briefly, never had a problem with her playing with them - they just remind me of the type of American High School "popular" crowd! Never even thought of the "hooker" thing - maybe we look into things far too much Im sure my daughter didnt look at them and think ---oooh great a hooker doll I wanna be just like her. I dont think at her age she even knows what a hooker is ( she is 9) by the time she does its unlikely she will remember her bratz doll days and again if she does its unlikely she will think - ooh just like my old Bratz doll!!!

She doesnt play with them now she is far to interested in Horses and anything Horse related :sneaky: dread to think what effect that will have on her :p

ha ha ha think she would have to fight hubby for that one!!!!

nah to be honest he isnt a big Jordan fan he doesnt do the whole huge boob thing - think he's scared of em :D

I quite like Jordan ( Katie Price) I think when you look past the Boobs she is quite an astute Business women - she works damn hard for what she has - as you have mentioned she isnt just boobs - and to be honest if men weren't so fickle she'd never make the money from the boob thing!!!!

Hypothetically yes, if she had set her heart on it. Seems unlikely though in the real world. Surely the boys would be more interested in buying a Jordan doll:sneaky:

She had a fling with Gareth Gates when he was 17 and SHE WAS 6 MONTHS PREGNANT with Harvey!!!!!!

When the whole story was published in the paper she was quoted in a newspaper saying that "Gareth looked like a rabbit caught in the headlamps" (bloody big headlamps they were too )

She may be an astute businesswoman but she would certainly not be a role model by any stretch of my imagination

Dignity is free and Jordan doesn't have much of it.

Re: Bratz dolls. Hookers or harmless?

Well I have been sat on the fence (apart from insulting Bazz;) ) but here's my tuppence worth.

I think you can't blame one doll for the demise of society and a lack of self esteem in young women or an over sexualisation of children. However, I think that young girls are constantly bombared with messages and imagery through the media that back up the message that women are valued more for asthetics than they are for intelligence or personality.......that I have an issue with. So maybe it's a case of everything in moderation........or maybe it's a case of more women in advertising and product management and design of toys for young girls. Or maybe it's a case, that good parenting can combat all. Not sure, maybe Ill tell you in 20 years.............All I know is the decsisons that we make when are children are young are the ones that we feel are best at the time, who knows if they are right or wrong, we can only do what's right for us and our values.
