Botox

I will deviate back to the point in question before nikki comes along and hangs you -
Don't think getting Botox is any more superficial than buying a new pair of killer heels, or anything else for that matter that is anything other than essential for day to day living!
Not angry at anyone for disagreeing - not everything is everyones cup of tea

Its a bit more "personally invasive" doncha think?
New shoes may hurt your heels for a bit, but there seems little chance of death as a result, unless you topple off your 6" heels and fall in front of a bus, so I respectfully disagree.
Botox is only temporary anyway. Newsflash, As you get older you get wrinkles. You've earned them, so get over it! Anyone who has a problem with a wrinkled face isnt respecting the person behind it anyway, so why should that person care. I guess I just dont get the whole cosmetic surgery thing...

Ignoring all the "poison" issues, and just thinking from the vanity side of course!
If you're interested I'll PM you the gory details of how my injections were done - not Botox, but I think the pain is similar!

Me neither. Though people do consider it to be completely different from, say, getting your hair done, using wrinkle cream or putting on make up. If something about your appearance bothers you and you can do something about it, I don't see what's wrong in doing it.

If you don't mind me asking Kaye how old were you when you got your first lot done?

Yup ok and send it to 4bells and farjojo too. It's not something that I was considering straight away - just seemed weird that Caz asked the question and I was thinking about the same thing earlier in the day.

One of the guys I work with has a regular botox regime. He's 25....
When I asked him why, he said it was to prevent wrinkles from starting to happen at all.
I've slightly considered it - but am more interested in growing old disgracefully than hiding all of the signs that I've had an interesting life.
I prefer to follow all of the other recommendations for keeping my skin look young - avoiding the sun, keeping well hydrated and eating healthy food. I've never been very good at facing up to the reality of getting older, but it's something that you have to accept.

On a level I agree with you, and I don't think anyone is trying to stop the clock - but if you can change something you aren't happy with - then why not?
I personally am not ready to have wrinkles - i'll accept them more when I feel older lol.

my problem with the botox thing in particular is the lack of understanding of the risks involved and in some cases ( don't know how regulated it is in Canada) the lack of training of the persons administering it.
To allow a teenager that has attended a half day training course to inject botulism toxin into your skin is criminally irresponsible.
Botox has legitimate medical uses, but there are reasons why physicians spend so many years training. it is so they can administer these things with an accepatbly low risk of killing someone

I suppose, on reflection, if you smoke then the risks of "Botox gone wrong" are no worse, probably better in the long run.
In general I try and avoid both doctors and handing over cash as much as possible as a rule. Thats one reason I dont smoke either I guess.
Must be a great cash cow for the places doing it though... hand over a few hundred bucks to try and stave off the natural effects of getting older, feel good for a bit, have the effects wear off over a few months, go hand over some more money, repeat until death do you part
