Re: Big Brother
Interesting to get the Canadian angle! Particularly as we'll be off to BC relatively soon.
S'pose all we can do is stand our ground and not tolerate racism - whether on the receiving end - or observing it.

Has anyone been following it? Views?
If you have been following it you will know what I mean.
Shilpa made the comment last night "Is this what Britian has come to?" "Such a Shame"
It's big news in the UK and some people will go and say "Oh it's not racism, it's hatred/clash of personalities etc
But when you hear comments like all indians are thin ebcause they undercook their food or go back where you came from directed at Shilpa, I'm sorry but if thats not racism I dont know what is....
Channel 4 has to be applauded for bringing this into the open, just confirms what we already know....There are a lot of good people out there but Britain is also full of people like the ones in Big Brother who are just full of hatred/racism etc. Just everyday people like me and you...

Re: Big Brother
A friend whose daughter married an american told me that their grand child faced prejudice in canada as many of the other children in their area believes all the stereotypes. They were called warmongers and some children even refused to play with them.
As has been said you get ignorant people everywhere

Re: Big Brother
I've been watching it. I don't think it started out as racism, just jealous bullying of a talented, beautiful, wealthy woman, but the snipes have certainly degenerated into that. Last night's tirade by Jade was shocking. Having said that, I think Danielle has said the most offensive things and stirred up the most trouble, so not sure why Jade's getting all the blame?
Amazing to think that 3 such idiots have caused an international incident

Re: Big Brother
It even happens in Canada. When I was there last I heard someone say that the asians who live in Brampton (GTA) are good asians not like the ones in the UK. They then made a few racist comments and they even told me a different name that had been given the city (slightly derogatory).
I saw something in the local paper a few days ago. It seems that about 60% of Quebeckers self-identify as racist. I would not be surprised if that figure were common ad mare usque ad mare.

To split a fine hair: Bramladesh is specifically the projects officially called Bramalea, not all of Brampton.

The quality of a person that would put themselves on a TV show such as Big Brother is immediately called into question IMO; and is most definitely NOT representative of a typical Brit (I hope!)

Re: Big Brother
Just heard the news on the BBC - Shilpa has retracted the accusation of racism! She says she has thought aboutit and realises it wasn't true - sorry I can't quote the whole thing as I was listening with half an ear, so to speak. Either way, it's a great way to promote a really tacky programme, innit!

Re: Big Brother
Why do people give this odious show the time of day?
The people in the house are there for their own reasons, playing a game, its not "real". If you dont like it, then simply switch off, you will be doing yourself a favour.
People seem up in arms, but keep watching anyway, and the publicity and ratings are all the producers really care about.

Agree that Endemol are the real winners here, I bet the get-Jade-out hotline is making a mint for them at a pound a minute or whatever it is.
