Depends what you want out of a holiday really. If you can be a bit more specific then people can advise you better, Canada's such a huge country that it would be like asking where you should go on holiday in Europe!

I suggest the Rockies in winter so you can learn.

Depends how much time and budget you have. The two main tourist routes are Toronto/Quebec or Vanvouver/Rockies. They're about 5hrs apart by plane.

What time of year and what do you like to do on holiday? You do need to be far more specific.

+1 for being more specific.

You might as well have asked "I want to go to Europe for a holiday. Where is best?"

Post a bit more about what kind of holiday you are looking for. Do you want to visit cities? Do you want to go to the beach? Outdoorsy hiking? Camping in the middle of nowhere? Mountain climbing? Kayaking? etc etc etc.

Our best family holidays in Canada were renting a cottage on a lake in QC. No internet, likely no phone, no TV. Kayaks and canoes in the garden, BBQ pit, nearest shop about a 10 mile drive away. Neighbour with a speedboat, enjoyed a beer and similarly aged kids.
Heaven!

Because you have children with you I wouldn't consider anywhere else but the greater Vancouver area.

Simple choice for me....

drive up the east side of the rockies to NWT (Yellowknife)
drive back down to the alaskan highway across to the Yukon (White horse)
get a ferry down to BC (Prince George)and drive down the west coast to Vancouver

Prince Rupert surely? If one gets a ferry to PG we are in a mother load of trouble!

As one cannot drive down the west coast (BC 97 is the nearest option and it is pretty soulless), a ferry from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy down the inside passage, then drive to Victoria and a boat ride to Vancouver should finish off the trip nicely.
