Re: The Beer thread
In college everyone who was a cad drank Pabst Blue Ribbon as it was cheap, now hipsters who want to recapture their youth are drinking it ironically.

Re: The Beer thread
Note that my use of PBR, shoving it into the cavity of chickens, is neither ironic nor deliberately unironic. It's cheap and the can fits well.

Plus Ive found it gives you a headache in the "frontal lobe" region if you have too many!

Re: The Beer thread
Today I bought - or rather my MIL did as she paid for it - two bottles of Krombacher Pils, alcohol free, in Dollarama of all places for $1.50 each.
If it's no good, it'll be fine for cooking.

Re: The Beer thread
Probably North Americans consider the Czech version to be a cheap knock off of their own premium beer.

I quite like Stella....but it doesnt like me...everyone has got a drink where they get a little out of character if they have too many....well Stella is mine....so I limit myself to two before I get too mouthy! lol

That is probably one of the big plus points to real ale - less of a hangover but your guts pay for it

You know beer can chicken has been comprehensively debunked as a useful thing to do with either a beer can or a chicken?

Re: The Beer thread
I thought the Krombacher was low priced @ $1.50 but in Superstore today they had 6 Becks alcohol free for $9 and that's the same $1.50.
Having said that, the Krombacher there was $12.
It was just the idea of getting a beer, of any sort, in Dollarama that threw me.

It has the same effect with me. Bloody loopy juice. The worst beer hangover I have ever had was after a session on Kokanee the first time I was in Winnipeg. It felt like a pick axe in each eye and that my brain was trying to push through the front my skull Never experienced that before or since.

When I tell Canadians what they call Stella in the UK...they are shocked! In the part of the UK I came from, and in many others they call it "wife beater" !! As you say...its loopy juice!
Real cask ale was always my tipple... Im waitng for it the take off in Canada.

Hmm....yes I see what you mean I dont get the the obsession with double and even triple IPA and other exotic flavours...
The one place in Peterborough that brews its own cask ale, has made some great ones, but last week I went in there and they were doing a cask ale with a mint and chocolate flavour.... WTF? whats wrong with a good old balanced amber coloured traditional English style bitter???
