Moving to Canada has saved me loads of money on booze, I just can't bring myself to pay the prices.
I congratulate the Liberals for making a complete mess of yet another "policy" with this "loosening" of beer sales. I look forward to the chorus of complaints in the near future when people realise the selection is smaller and prices are higher in the supermarket. |

I could go to the local LCBO and pick up a bottle of Bushmills whiskey for less than it'll cost back home in Northern Ireland...where it's made.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing That's using today's exchange rate (1.83), and not taking into account deals in the UK, just the average price for whatever. Bit of a mix of stuff between what's cheaper in Canada vs the UK. Hopefully that link works and makes sense - I had to get it in a per100mL price to do a proper comparison since bottle sizes vary so much. Really it's columns L, M, and N that matter. |

After dropping $55 last night for 3 beers and a salad, I might be with you there.
I get wallet-shock whenever I veer away from the cheaper environs of the Peoples Republic of Scarberia. Must brace oneself for the 8th May.

As long as you aren't logged in, then no. (I tested this from another browser... I'm logged in in Chrome and I show up, but if I open it in IE, where I'm not logged in, then I just show up as anonymous.)
Today I just noticed on my Android phone that, despite previous efforts to limit the contacts book to current individuals, it's taken the liberty of importing a decade's worth of contacts for me. Incrementally, insidiously, these tech giants are removing all notions of privacy. |

I did warn that it was super nerdy, hehe. :) I did this a few months ago before Mr Schnook's parents were coming to visit, they were asking if it was worth them importing anything from the UK that he wanted... so I put this spreadsheet together to work out what was worth importing and what wasn't. Of course this doesn't account for duty free pricing, this is just LCBO vs UK Supermarkets (prices pulled from www.mysupermarket.co.uk). |
Re: Beer Sales in Ontario
I think there's two flaws in the spreadsheet. The first is a comparison for discount booze- your proverbial Tesco's Own Brand Vodka. Thanks to LCBO price control if your basic bottle of dop is $25, your discount unrecognisable bottle of unknown provenance is $23 at lowest- I don't know why anyone would buy it. In the UK if I remember the unbranded stuff is like half the price.
Then the other is going out- draft beer. Though it's hard enough to assess that in the UK alone with the discrepancy between a wetherspoon, a regular pub and something I central London with tourists. The buck a beer tip over here needs to be factored in too. |

Sorry my post was written way too critically. I admire the pedantry in doing a spreadsheet in the first place!
Back in the day we had a "piss per pence" chart on the wall of the house we shared, comparing wines, beers and spirits available from the local corner shops and Gateway supermarket (Gateway dates this in itself). But ours was hand written and done manually on a calculator. |
