All provinces have these and when these payments are high enough it doesnt make sense to them to go out and find a job be it minimum wage or even $14 an hour as they feel they have more money collecting benefits as opposed to working.

Then there was the $400m the last NDP govt. spent on ferries that did not work (which they were told before they had them built). That's $400m that could have gone to social programs!

Now we'd all be better off if we'd kept HST, but a minority of voters opted to get rid of it and we're all paying higher taxes. Effective rate of 14% on most things we buy than than food. We could have had 10% HST.

Yes those who can work should have limits, and lower rates, but for those who cant work due to medical issues, they deserve a payment that can at-least keep them from living on the streets or destitute.
