But then, this probably counts as questioning the actions of the mods on the public forums, so is against the rules, so I'll drag this back to the point to deter their wrath....

We have a gas BBQ and a whole load of woodchips saved from the cutting down of a hickory tree a couple of years ago. A little foil package of soaked hickory chips produces a wonderful flavour in anything cooked on the gas grill.

In the firepit, I've been using dead branches off apple trees to top off the charcoals when BBQ'ing. I'd never really thought about "which wood is best to burn when cooking food" so asked around a bit and the general advice was to use wood from fruit trees.

Once those dead branches are all gone I'll have to have a look around, see if there's a hickory tree nearby. Is hickory an important tree, I mean, is it socially acceptable for us to be able to take what we need from them??

I agree... the original post seemed to be a throwdown for a big-endian/little-endian fight straight out of Swift. If someone wants to throw down a challenge, at least let the topic be something more significant than how to cook a hamburger.

Really, dbd33 search on posts seems to show and active profile. Perhaps I'm looking at it incorrectly.

Odd. Maybe a suspension only affects the entry in the list of members?

I've asked a mod for clarification.

My husband fries steaks in the winter. The smell of it makes me feel nauseous. But on the BBQ it smells really good. Mind you I have to find a way of breaking our BBQ. It has to be about 30 years old. When we moved into this house, there was a natural gas BBQ which we used until we built the deck and chucked it as it was really old. So my husband brings out the original BBQ which had been sitting in the shed for 25 years.

I have enough airmiles points for a natural gas BBQ, but HE wants to keep the old one. He got new wheels for it, but the old ones were maybe 5" and he couldn't find those, so he got 7" and so its kind of wonky! A couple of years ago, when my husband was away, my son brought steaks over and just about went ballistic because the BBQ never got hot! I always wondered why my husband lit the darn thing and then went away for half an hour!! He then went and bought a new manifold or whatever those metal thingies are called, but he's probably using the original briquette thingies!

I also had a plumber friend install a lovely shiny natural gas connection on the side of the deck, but apparently we have to use the ancient propane one. I can't buy the natural gas BBQ, because it will need putting together and him outside won't put it together because he wants to use the old one. Even if I paid someone to assemble the BBQ, he would probably insist on using the antique.

My one sister suggested I take a hammer and try to break the bottom out, but I said he'd probably buy a tinfoil pan to fix into the broken bottom - or make one himself out of a length of tinfoil, and fix it with that!!

I used to tell a friend that he fixes things with two coat hangers and a piece of string. I'll have to add a length of tinfoil to that!
