Average commute?

Re: Average commute?
3 minutes in the car to Clarkson GO, express to Union 22 minutes, 7 or 8 minutes walk to the office. The way home is slightly longer as I do daycare pickup.
It's actually easier than my NS commute was from Fall River to Halifax.
The worst I did in the UK was driving a couple of hours each way from Basingstoke to Acton.

Re: Average commute?
Almost 60 Km each way....depending on time of day can take anything from 50 minutes to an hour usually. Though in the winter months (snow etc) it can take longer. Living out of town (Kingston, Ont) it can't be avoided. A trade off gladly accepted by many, including me, being able to live in the country rather than 'Urbanville'.

30 minutes give or take. Used to work much farther away but now work downtown and thus have a much nicer commute. That extra hour a day that I don't spend in the car has improved my quality of life markedly.

Re: Average commute?
interesting thread. When i lived in Burlington I was 10 mins in car to Go train, then about 45-50 mins on train. Short walk to office. (this was similar timescale and more reliable to the commute I had in Scotland which involved a ferry that was often off due to bad weather in winter!)
whenever I am bitching about the price of petrol here (scotland) to my brother (canada) he always brings up the arguement that you have to drive much farther in Canada. While I will concede he has a point to an extent, I personally didn't find this to be the case.
When I started reading this thread, I fully expected everyone to be saying their commute was so much worse than when they were in the UK. Nice to see otherwise for many people.
BTW - Petrol was a steamy 127.9p per liter a few days ago... and will be more now the VAT has gone up.

Re: Average commute?
Daily commute in UK was about 5 mins to office but had to travel all over UK so not in office all the time.
No commute here as such. We drive down the hill to a storage yard where the work truck is stored then we go wherever the job is.
Traffic can still be a pain some days but not on the same level as UK but it's what you get used to. Eventually you still end up complaining when you are sat at the lights behind 3 other cars.

Re: Average commute?
I commuted 130 miles a day in UK for 2 years....took upwards of an hour each way with the worst drive home being 3 hours.
When we decided on the location to settle in first, the commute was a massive factor. We have settled in an area with at least 6 suitable companies within 15 minutes drive. Have offer from one of those companies now and interview with second tomorrow.
I am orginally from Boringstoke......there are some roundabouts where we live here in Ontario. It is very funny watching people attempt them... They should install a magic roundabout (as per Swindon etc) then they might appreciate the simple ones.

Re: Average commute?
10 minute drive. I cycled a few times over the summer but we moved downtown recently and cycling would involved going up a rather steep hill, which I'm just not fit enough for.
In the Uk had a 1.5 hour commute. It was a combo of walking, train and bus and was only 22 miles!

Re: Average commute?
About 35 km and about 35 minutes, on average. Depends, as usual, on snowfall, time of day, traffic and idiots .
Probably did about the same in the UK.
