I don't think that appeals to all demographics either. (Of course BC may be the exception).

But on topic, I'll be spending the summer listening to all five tests on BBC4, for which we have perfect reception in Normandy.

Wahey!

Only the most junior among us. :sneaky:

I'm glad you appreciate Calva though. I'm looking forward to renewing my acquaintance with a bottle of Calvados du fermier vintage 1951 which I didn't quite finish last summer.

You know not of what you speak. The BBC4 Test match commentaries are an art form of the highest ilk.

Are you a cradle Canadian?

Come on you must have a reason why? Are you insinuating that I don't understand the finer elements of the game?

Think it was the fact that my Dad used to watch Cricket non-stop when I was a kid, with the sound down on the TV and the Radio 4 commentary on..............bored me senseless and I think that I have been traumatised by it ever since.

I've never heard of Battle of the Planets, but I bet it was less violent than Freddie Truman.

How can TMS have bored you senseless? It was the soundtrack to my childhood summers. The "old guard" in particular (Arlott when I was a nipper, Johnston, Mosey, and latterly Agnew ) possessed some of the most wonderful turns of phrase, and there was something beautifully mellifluous about the slightly waffly timbre of a Radio 3 TMS broadcast on a summer's afternoon. My mother, not the world's greatest cricket fan, used to enjoy listening to the other stuff they talked about - the red buses, the pigeons, the cakes... it can be almost more entertaining during stoppages than when there's cricket taking place.

When I hear clips of them now I find it fascinating/funny/calming but as a teenager it was incredibly boring

Tut. I look forward to lengthy debate about the degree of threat posed by a cloud approaching the Oval from the west. And comparisons to that other cloud at Headingley in 1972.

With a DVR you can record it and essentially watch it the same time of day as if in England. I myself get a case or two of Boddingtons or other suitable ale, some pork pies and egg and cress sarnies and sit on the patio and watch the telly through the french doors.

The radio 4 broadcast is a nice idea but you have to watch in real time I ain't getting up at 3 am as I've probably only just gone to bed.

I know this is hard to believe, but earlier this evening my OH self identified (without any prompting from me) as a curmudgeon.

Perhaps that's why we're still married.

336 for 7. Australia won the day in my opinion. Can't believe that shot by KP. Freddie and Prior getting out late in the day tipped to the Aussies. Should be a good day tomorrow with Beefy, Bumble and Athers more warmed up. I thought they were a little flat today.
