Re: Apparently, English Defence League to provoke unrest in UK over summer????
How come everyone can get up in arms about Brits denigrating moslems etc, but it's OK to take the piss out of Catholics?
And just because one poster says "no-one religious can make a rational decision," doesn't mean that's gospel.
For those of us who are religious, or Catholic, or Christian, or Muslim, or Hindu comments like that smack of intolerance, ignorance, or a desire to incite.
And such a thread drift in this thread is also hypocritical.

To bring this back on thread, I'm opposed to the EDL (and their brethren in the NF and BNP) because their islamophobia is used as a cover for something a lot more sinister.

Triumph guy - chill.
I am Catholic, my kids go to Catholic school as I have mentioned more than once. Growing up in England in the 80s meant that I had to learn to laugh at stuff, Irish jokes were all the rage and coming from the north west of Ireland, I soon learnt to take on board what was meant and go with the easy fun, if others could take it back. However there is a huge difference between light banter and bigotry, unless of course you have now joined the PC brigade too.
I give it to my own much less than I have taken it, but I reserve the right to have humour about my own type, whether it's women, Irish, hippies whatever. Humour meant as humour really is harmless, bit like families having "in" jokes.
A non pious,

I don't get up in arms about Brits denigrating moslems. I don't get up in arms about them denigrating any other religion either - they're all wrong as far as I'm concerned. All religion is evil. There. I've said it.

If people wish to believe in a "higher power", that's fine. The organised religons that tell people how to run their lives and thoughts can do one. The women of Quebec told the church precisely where to go several decades ago.

For myself, I wished I had lived a couple of centuries in the future, when all religions would have died out and humanity could truly progress instead of being held back with century's old beliefs.
The religion of football excepted of course.

I have looked in to the correlations between the religions through working with Muslims and it's kinda interesting how much they all have in common.
What's really interesting though, is the concept that Paganism and Catholicism are so closely linked.
Each to their own eh? (cause there aint that much difference - sometimes)

I agree. The typical "Christian" depiction of the Virgin Mary is how most muslim women look (from an attire point of view).

If one has good strong faith in their religion then it would not be affected by name calling from others. If some are unsure about their beliefs then perhaps they are frightened that the jokes, names, drawings, etc. will somehow loosen their beliefs.

As for football, in 200 years I only fear that city will have managed to have overtaken United in terms of trophies and titles won...

Ah - if only. Unfortunately most of mankind is led by the fear of death and the desire for a comfort blanket which is why it will take a lot longer than 200 years my friend.
