There are loads of around our area (the Robson Valley) and unfortunately too many of them are not very human-shy at all... We see them quite regularly and know many neighbours who have lost pets and livestock to them. We kind of lost a miniature donkey and a goat of ours to a cougar, but it was after we'd rehomed them to a friend of ours, about 10 mins away, so at least they were no longer in our care when they met their demise.

Think everyones warnings are hitting home

When I was younger I met one or two cougars that morphed into moose.... it had a tendency to occur the next morning once I'd sobered up.

Well we took advice from all your posts, yesterday we drove from Red Deer west to the Cowboy Trail, went on and off that all the way down to the 66 and off to Elbow Falls, after a picnic we drove back to the 1a and drove through Bow Valley and around Canmore. Didn't see any wolves or cougars. We saw some new birds and a huge deer very close up, when it ran in front of the car
Saw some amazing scenery, the waterfall was beautiful but there was so many people there it ruins it a bit. Wasn't that impressed with the Bow Valley drive as the quarry buildings ruin the landscape. Still had a great day. Next day trip we're going to head north towards Jasper as we're not been that way yet and i'm told it's not so riddled with visitors.
Thanks for the advice all, no wolves yet but i'm sure it'll happen when i'm not looking for them.

We went to the mountains on New Years Eve and saw a wolf on the Lake Minnewanka loop. It was a couple of minutes drive past Cascade Ponds. Also saw a load of Elk too.
I love living here. Glad we were in the car at the time!
