A beer....I'm not paying for them to get drunk

They should be paid a decent wage in the first place.

I suppose one can argue that the movers don't much matter, you're not likely to move again. I think tipping the curry delivery guy is critical though, he can take revenge.

The best thing to do is be straight with them at the very beginning and mention to them that if they move all your stuff without breaking anything, they will be rewarded.
Don't forget that the majority of removal men are agency staff getting paid a low wage, £50 split into two doesn't buy much these days

$100 tip to someone who is getting paid to do the job??? Blimey, you must be rich. I agree with the OP, tipping is always awkward. I usually tip 15 - 20% in restaurants, pizza delivery etc. Hair dresser, I hate this one as she has tons more money than I do! But I usually add a flat amount, depending on what I had done. I tip the paper boy at Christmas, used to tip my post lady but now I have those "super mailboxes". I never leave a tip if the service is bad. Back to movers - my OH usually gives them $20 each "for a drink".

No. But I did tip a waiter $75US last week and I think my record in a bar is $200US. It's good for the soul to reward people who provide a good service.

I think they are getting paid very well. i am moving in peak period so the prices are hiked WAY up( in Quebec avoid moving between june 1 and july 1 at all costs ,but i cant as i start the new job june 5th)

A 2.5 hour return trip (for them ) to montreal with the contents of a 5.5 apt for $2,300. divide that between 3 guys. someone do the math. ofcourse they have to charge and decharge but it is still a DAYS job. Anyway, i am sure they are making more than minimum wage. heck , i;ll buy them a case of 24 for less than 30 bucks if that;s what they want.`
