We are waiting for it as it has almost stopped at the moment.
It's that invisible North Shore line that is stopping the rest coming.

Started snowing here a couple of hours ago.
Light fluffy stuff that has lots of large flat crystals so is shining like diamonds under the outdoor lights - beautiful

Our first winter here in NS. Is it a bad year for winter/snow storms or is this about normal for the beginning of winter? I know typically the worst is yet to come but I was wondering what to expect for the rest of winter.

the weather network was saying that we should have a milder than usual Jan/Feb here in the maritimes so make of it what you will

This is our 4th in NS, and worst by far, although none of them have been the same. Think the thing this winter is that the snow started much earlier than usual. It can also carry on like this to April/May. Not sure what the municipality will do if we have much more snow - heard they had already spent over a third of their snow clearing budget for this winter.

When we arrived on Jan 8 2007 there was no snow and it was quite mild. Within a week or 2 the temps plummeted down as low as -20Cs and even -30Cs (including windchill) for the duration of the winter. There was very little snow though and lots of blue skies.
Winter 2008 saw quite a dump of snow but temps were warmer at around -10C to -20Cs.
Blue skies looks nice but it usually means very low temps with no snow (of course). Clouds blanket the earth, so the temps are normally warmer but with more snowfall.
This year there has of course been a lot of snow the last few weeks. Thank goodness we bought a snowthrower just before Christmas

Snow stopped here now - we got loads. OH went out to clear up a bit and had cleared the end of the drive and was digging out the car when the snow plough flew past and covered both him and the car in snow! I just happened to look out of the window at the right time and nearly wet myself laughing..!
For some reason he didn't laugh as much as I did....

That is what I said! That the snow plough driver waits till he figures enough people will be out clearing the snow and then goes for it!!! I only wish I had my camera to capture it forever!

I find this website pretty good on forecasting: http://www.accuweather.com/canada-in...her&traveler=0 and Brett Anderson's blog always makes good reading. He tends to be more accurate than Environment Canada most of the time!
