hey, we arrived nearly 2 years ago and waited over a year to buy a car, we were then prepared to go and take our test and were told we didn't need to and could take license to ICBC and get it swapped over. We did see the 90 days thing but thought we'd cross that bridge if/when we come to it. We did actually cross the border to extend visas within 90 days prior so this may have worked in our favour. But we were never 'asked' by ICBC.
Motoring questions we were asked:
*why are motorcyclists at more risk on the road?
*what should you do if you see the green lights flashing
The lady did have to do some prompting with a bit of sign language which was quite funny but was all OK.
I found it quite easy to start driving here, definitely helps having lived here for a while and getting used to being a passenger on the other side of the road. I think it would be much harder to arrive and go straight into driving IMO.
I say go and see what they say, can't hurt to try. and if that doesn't work, day trip to the states = $6, cheaper than re-taking your test!!!

[QUOTE=stacey.cook1;9479771]ICBC states you have 90 days after 'arriving' in the country to swap your driving licence over. Presume they will look at your most recent stamp...so cross the border come back = stamp in your passport.

I take the 90 days to mean that you can no longer drive using your UK license 90 days after you become resident in the Province. If you want to continue driving you must swap your license before this time is up.
Not that you only have a 90 day window in which to swap your license otherwise your right to exchange it is lost. I think the OP will be OK to simply exchange their UK license for a BC one.
Like so many ICBC "rules" it is ambiguously worded and open to various interpretations.

Go to your nearest ICBC driving centre and ask for the learning the drive book. I think it's called "Learning to Drive Smart" now. It will help you learn the rules of the road here and if you have to do the test it has all the answers in there. There's also a practice test on the ICBC website that is pretty much identical to the actual test.

Just to let everybody know I went into ICBC yesterday and got my licence.
No questions about when I arrived in Canada, just asked what flashing green light means, schoolbus flashing lights, why cyclists are more at risk.
thanks everybody for your input
