Hi

My husband is looking for work in London Ontario as a HGV class one driver. Has anyone found work in this profession succesfully, and is the info correct about having to take an HGV written/practical test before being considered for a position? Any info would be greatly appreciated...

Hope that the Wiki article on trucking helps then. Don't know anything about it myself but it might also be worth doing a search of the forums and there have been loads of threads about it in the past. The only thing I know about it is that Canadian truckers are away from home a lot due to the huge distances!!

Thanyou for the sound advice, you can tell this site is all new to me, I did realise I hadn,t titled the thread correctly but I had already submitted it.
That website you sent me is great has all the info we need to know, god I feel like such a novice and this is only the beginning, trust my son to have a canadian fiance.... Once again thanks for the help I only hope I get better at all this research stuff as I go on!

I have read quite a few things about Trucking in Canada but I get confused about some issues, such as, trucking isn't covered by the skilled worker route but on the other hand in some areas it is a scarse skill (long haul anyway) so if truckies are wanted is it a case of getting a job offer in an area that needs them and then will you get a positive LMO because you have an offer from somewhere that does require them so you can apply for a TWP, but I also get the impression that because you are not under the skilled worker ruling that you will not be able to apply for a PR as easily as if you had been offered a 'skilled worker' job. My OH has the means to enter as a skilled worker but he doesn't want that kind of job, he wants to be a long haul truckie as he much prefers driving trucks, but does that mean we wouldn't get PR? Hope this makes sense!

This is the programme we are on, the company has to be appoved by the Province, there will be a TWP issued for approx 2 years after 6 months you can apply to Saskatchewan for provincial nomination after they reply you then apply to Canada for PR. I am not sure about other Provinces but please read the Trucking thread in the jobs abroad by profession, you will find loads of info there.
