Above Ground Swimming Pools

Hi, anyone buy one of these, I hear the inflatable ring ones are murder unless your ground is perfectly level, anyone tried the Hydroforce one with the steel walls?
Theres an Intex 18x9x52 one too that has solid walls, anyone tried that one, can you leave them out all winter, any recommendations:confused:

Re: Above Ground Swimming Pools

My grounds not perfectly level and the inflatable ring type was OK up to a point. The kids got too big for it though.

I wouldnt leave any of the temporary "canadian tire" type pools out for the winter, rigid or not, they are not the same as the permanent type above ground pools.

Inflatable rings are OK until the crows get thirsty! Their claws play havoc on it.

Try having a bloody hawk land on the ring when we had ours up last Summer

Plus its puncture count was not helped by the fact that one of our cats seemed to favour the pool over his water dish, so we had the damage from his claws, and the stress of wondering whether he'd fall in and drown at some point (he's getting old and not very agile)...

Still, at least the kids enjoyed their new pool!

If you can't afford to have a proper a pool built, don't get an above ground pool, its way too white trash and it'll just be a hassle.

Such pools are very popular in these parts. I can see three from my window. They seem to survive the winter.

Much as in ground may look nicer and more integrated, its a whole world of pain if it starts to leak or goes wrong, plus is a lot easier for wildlife and the unaware to fall in an inground pool than an above ground pool.

If we ever get a permapool, it will be above ground, and not just cos we are cheap!

Use it in winter - no.
Cost excluding any landscaping, just the 18x38 pool $35,000
Landscaping my hubby did still cost $15,000 or more.
cabana - hubby built - still $2500

But unless you actually live there it won't do you much good. Swimming pool in your back yard can be used daily throughout summer - Inground or above ground;)

Always good to have a plan. My hubs and I always planned on retiring to France (still might), but after kids came along, may depend on where they settle, or if they settle in any one place! won't be following them aroundby any means but would like to be relatively close. Having said that, when they get home from school today and it all kicks off I'll want to be 1000's of miles away!

Pool covers dont stop people drowning, in fact they may make it worse if you get trapped under it while struggling. They do keep the pool warmer though.

MMMm French food!

We considered Italy but after watching those BBC progs and looking on the Italy section here changed our minds, I do love Italian food though, I bought the Silver Spoon book, it has some brill recipes, very fattening though:unsure:

Rural France is nice, people are friendly but I hated the touristy spots, the locals were very rude, prob due to too much abuse by tourists:rofl:

From what I hear from people who have done it, the quality and reputation of the local installer is a lot more important then the brand.

doesn't it depend on what kind of pool cover you get? i'm referring to the ones that slide across the pool in two grooves alongside the pool. i thought those were safe, and they keep the pool clean :)

anyway, after a quick google search i also found this: http://www.aspectspools.co.uk/swimmi...-safety-covers

plus there are also dome type covers that slide across and can be locked

An above ground pool can look great if it has a deck built around it. Also an inground pool raises your taxes.

Cananda is definately on the cards for us for the next 10 years or so, but we still want to settle in Europe somewhere - France, possibly Spain (not a dodgy holiday resort though ).

Just have to do the big move from Oz first :sneaky:
