I have 11 hrs between flights Monday in LHR on my way from St John's to Jo'burg. Any thoughts on ways to spend time other than hanging around Heathrow all day?

Don't tell airport security you have '8 hours to kill'. It might raise some suspicions

Based on my experience there last month, that might be just enough time to get through security.

You could always take a laptop with a wireless connection you could hang about here all day.

Not being from the south of England I can't recommend anywhere for a semi-day trip.

Sounds like a good book might be an option.

Take your camera and lots of pictures when you get there though.

How about going to Hampshire and pretend you want to buy Steve666's house?

Lock your luggage away in a safe secure spot, take the tube to piccadily circus, go to soho, have a good meal. chinese or whatever, do some sightseeing, stretch your legs and you will still have plenty of time to catch your connecting flight.

The heathrow express train only takes 15 minutes into central london, and leaves every 15 minutes? The Capital is your oyster.

I would take the tube and wander round whichever tube station you choose to get off at as anywhere is better than LHR....

I think you can get a lounge pass for a few quid (well, same amount as the LHR Express), and that would be good for 3 hours of free drinks, nibbles and internet.
