I gave up checking petrol prices to the cent a long time ago. I need a car, car needs petrol to run. I just try not to think about it
I do know that in general prices in my town are +/- 10c/litre cheaper than down in the city, & that the gas station in the village where my son lives is always cheaper than that. I fill up the car when I go over there.
Ontario is significantly cheaper still, & as I'm regularly over there, I do try & calculate my journeys to allow me to fill an empty tank there at the last possible moment before hitting the road home.
I do have a petrol budget for the extra-curricular vehicles in my life; it's not looking good for this summer
Having said all that, with this thread in mind, I did note that the local price today is 1,379/litre. I winced.

I think manufacturers have switched onto the Ethanol thing in more recent times and are making engines able to cope with higher contents of different chemicals/detergents

Went up to 146.9 today, first time ever I have had to pay over 70 dollars for a tank of gas, luckily it will last about 2 weeks, so its not frequent but I feel bad for those commuting to Whistler for work at these prices.
I could not imagine owning a large vehicle with a large tank if it cost 73 dollars for a Sunfire..

Must be a decent size tank if it's $73 for your car. I don't think I can get much more than $60 in our Corolla.

If so, you're effectively paying about the same per mile for premium as you would for cheapskate. At least when rolling along the road and not sitting stationary at a traffic light.

I believe it says "may contain up to..." a certain percentage of ethanol. Can't recall if it's 10% of 15% as I didn't pay close enough attention.

I hadn't heard of that, have you ever compared the gas mileage when switching between grades? I assume it's one of those Ecoboost engines?

A: Gasoline sold in Ontario is required to have an overall ethanol content of five per cent. But, as not all engines can tolerate it, you'll typically find 10 per cent ethanol in regular gas, five per cent in mid-grade, and none in premium grades.
Extra gas-line antifreeze agents generally shouldn't be necessary for most regular and mid-grade users except, perhaps, in extreme conditions. Premium gas users should consult their owner's manual for recommendations on gas additives.
Before the government ethanol requirement took effect, many major oil refiners sold gas without ethanol during the winter, stating it was unnecessary – although they've always been more than happy to sell it to you in those little bottles.
Keeping your tank more than half-full in winter helps minimize condensation and avert potential problems.
I guess drivers in Florida and California don't really care about the gas line anti freeze properties of ethanol

I haven't seen gas that low in several years in Canada, so long ago....lol
It's a 1.24 in Squamish, BC as of 4pm when I was out and saw the signs. Was 1.26 on Monday, and 1.27 for the 2 weeks prior, so has gone down. I don't expect it to ever get as low as 1.07 though, and nowhere close to the 94 cents some in Edmonton had reported.

Seems Vancouver is around 1.18 according to gas buddy.
We always get to pay a premium where I am over Vancouver even though Vancouver has more taxes on their gas, but gas companies like a captive audience so they jack up the prices.
