The city is still reaping the infrastructure benefits of the Expo 24 years later.

You really have no idea what you're talking about, have you?

1 - They are struggling with the conditions on cypress. 'TV Snow' is being shipped in, but that isn't going to help if the mountain is covered in cloud and drizzle. Vanoc can't directly be blamed for this, but they took a big gamble by having some events local; conditions on cypress weren't that great last year and events were cancelled.

2 - Canadians overstate the worlds interest in the winter games. Very few countries have populations that care. I saw estimates that said over 1 billion people will watch the opening ceremony!! Yeah right, the only possible way for that to happen is if they count people that watch the news which shows a 5s clip and even then it is unlikely. The number of people that actually sit down and watch it will be in the millions I reckon.

Agreed. I shall, however, reserve judgement until the games kick off and I've had a look around. However, a few fancy looking banners and some much needed signage isn't really getting my juices going yet. I think they've spent so long planning the security, logistics etc, that they've forgotten to include anything much that is fun outside of the ticketed events.

I actually hope it all goes well (but not to the extent that Vancouver feels the need to go on and on about it), but early omens do not bode well.

I do. If I recall it correctly snow making machines were a new thing and I remember seeing a report about somebody putting bits of snow in small zip bags and then selling these as 'calgary man made snow' souvenirs at $1 a time. Even in my callow youth I thought that was cheeky which is why I remember it.

Yeah, I agree that criticism of the atmosphere downtown is bit on the early side. My guess is that the party atmosphere in town will depend very much on the canadian iced hockey teams progress.

Bah. The men's medal will be won by the NHL, one way or another. The women's event will be another matter. I think the Mexican lesbian team is in with a good chance.

BC Place. Oh yes, the leaky concrete bunker. It looks incredibly ugly and dated. I noticed how well BC Lions season ticket sales were doing now that they will be temporarily relocating to the old Empire field or whatever it is called. There is definitely a reason behind that. They should knock it down and start again and not build an overpriced roof.

Skytrain is OK, but is expensive and low capacity. I've no idea why they continue to be locked into this and don't do an more extensive light rail/tram system. I guess someone at Bombardier is greasing some palms.

Some of you make me sick. This place is embarassing. You'd never believe there was a major international event about to happen here. Instead of trying to outwit each other with your smart ass responses to my valid points, perhaps you should give my point some consideration.

Take note from this lack of celebration and energy. The vancouverites couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery if there was a "press button for instant piss up" button placed in multiple places and translated into every known language including Klingon. They'd somehow find a way of not pressing it.

Well the "let's wait and see" attitude is the f-ing problem here. I think Vancouverites and many Brits who move here are just a bunch of followers. No wonder creative business thinkers like myself cannot wait to move away. And before anyone points it out, at tens of thousands to move it's no minor consideration.

Your problem is that you don't like opinions other than your own. I could wring some of your ****ing necks

I was sure enough before, but this confirms the troll theory.

I'm sure it did. But I think you should read my post again. I was referring to the 2010 Olympics. But my apologies you'd be excused for missing it because you can drive through every street downtown and there's nothing.

I think the problem is that Brits like you (assuming you are one) have the lack of sense of humour and personality that undermines this whole place.

What would you suggest should be done to liven the place up?

Well here we can agree. The poster Oakvillian has absolutely no sense of humour and zero personality. It's why I enjoy having a beer with him when possible. Makes me look good.

Oh, and he's a tosser too, he drives a Morgan. I ask you!
