It never was. The OP was a fly-by wind-up merchant. Has it really taken so long for folk to figure that out?

Jeez.

There were beans, beans, as big as submarines in the quar-ter-mas-ter's stores. You just have to try brand after brand to see what you can stomach. The Heinz beans aren't as good as they used to be, and the Libby's beans that show up in Dollar stores aren't as good as they used to be either (Libby's used to be best).
That chunk of pork fat in your can of pork and beans isn't meant to be eaten,it's only there to achieve truth in advertising. The dog would love it. Stoke's beans from Dollarama are a larger than normal can so if you like those it's a consideration.

They're all the same to me. The only baked beans I ever thought were different were school ones that were watery.

I jumped the gun when I saw the word 'pork' on a tin, thinking they might be like the ones in the UK with mini pork sausages.

But it was pork fat. Why on earth would you want a piece of fat in a tin of beans?

Curried beans...now they are different.

They can moan all they naffing like about how crap our food is in the UK but its difficult to explain to N. Americans the unadulterated joy when coming home as a child and expecting a boring tea but discovering there were little sausages in your beans on toast.

And we have a new winner. Clarks baked beans!

I expect they'll be off the shelves by Christmas.

Sweeter and fattier. Not suitable for a Slimming World diet, hence the need for British Heinz beans. Lower fat, sugars and salt.

And the tin has a ring pull. They're not proper beans if you have to fetch an opener.

So true. You can even get them in bucket sized plastic bottles.

Handy stuff that.

There's a cut of pork - sirloin, I think - that's really tasteless but great with the steak spice. It works on so many things.

We had a recent thread including how well 'chips' did in the oven just being sprayed with oil. Montreal steak spice added is nice.

I do wonder, though, if it adds too much salt to intake.

Did just that with pork medallions couple of nights ago. Worked a treat.
