The Tesco and Aeon in Malacca aren't very good but as we don't live there we haven't tried the local wet markets.
Mind you while walking around the small streets off Jln Hang Jebat during dusk one day we saw all the dissected parts of a pig strewn on the tarmac outside a local butcher. Gave the pork extra flavour I suppose.

Are you referring to Malacca or PD?

But you need to use Mydin, Aeon and Tesco for different things
What I stock up on in KL are really nice steaks, pickled onions, Branston pickle, PG Tips and a few other bits just not sold here that I crave from time to time.
The main wet market is Ok but for bits of pig.... a small town outside Melaka is well known for getting a pig or two out on the street around 5pm and generally chopping whatever bits you like. Very fresh, free flies but so far no problems internally at all for us. Always has a nice liver for me too.

Could be PD has many areas with Unifi like some parts of Melaka but once away from the main roads here no signs yet although they swear the cables are in.
Same thing with the other providers. I check regularly to see if I can upgrade and despite all the adverts...............noooo not yet!
Don't even have a Cold Storage here!! Trek to KLIA 2 for a decent grocer believe it or not where there is quite an acceptable Jaya Grocer.

Question about the 1000RM deposit at TM for Unifi & Streamyx service if you're a non-Malay citizen (I assume that's still required (?)). Is that deposit used to pay your monthly bill payments? i.e. if your service costs 200RM/month, is that 1000RM deposit used to pay your first 5 months of service?

No, it's just a deposit. Just sits there. One of the Foreigners' cons
Make very sure you get a proper receipt for it though. We did. Then they asked us umpteen times to pay it again. Took forever for the deposit to "get in the system".

When we ordered the upgrade to Unify we were told that we will get the Streamyx deposit, RM 1075 back. And there is no deposit for Unify. We would have to go to the Burmah Road TM office to get the refund.

I wasn't asked to pay any deposit for Unifi in July 2105, as a customer completely new to Malaysia and TM.
I understand I will be fined 500RM if I terminate the service before two years is up, but if I'm leaving the country I don't know how they'll enforce that.

Unify is presently running a promotion in my area, 30MBit/s @ RM179/month.
I had Streamyx 4MBit/s @ RM 147/M so I signed up for this.
And I will get the Streamyx deposit back since there is no deposit required for this.

For watching TV and movies all over the world if you have a good internet service you could get an Android box which will allow you to stream all the TV stations and movies to view by connecting the box to the TV using the HDMI cable and also a power cable for the box.Plenty on the market but the basic ones are not very good. You need one with 2 GB storage 16 GB ram and a octa quad processor. The box Red bean with dual antenna seems to be the best one to get and am pleased with it as it is user friendly. Some boxes are not user friendly and are in mandarin. I would stay clear of those boxes as it is a waste of money. Test carefully in the shop as to how easy it is to use before you buy.

8888riviera:that spec you are quoting is very high & pricey for something to watch internet tv. 2 GB ram would be sufficient, 4 GB probably better & will allow for some growth in the future. You need very little storage to stream, only if you are building a library of video & music. For those who will want to watch UK tv through certain UK based sites via a VPN or DNS service provider you have to be able to control your wifi connections which can be problematic on some boxes I have seen. I have successfully used an Amazon firestick purchased from the UK but for a google chromecast you will need you to configure your router.

The RM 179 pack (Aneka) only includes malay tv stations, the Ruby pack brings happiness for people from China, Japan and Korea, but only the Jumbo is suitable for Westeners.
If you really got a promotion for Jumbo and 179 I will delete this immediately
And we did also not need to pay a deposit for Unifi.

David,
Yes, it will definitely be (much) more expensive if you include the additional TV packages they offer .
I was merely seeing it as an option to be able to stream TV programs from overseas at a better quality.

I'm wondering if Streamyx 8 Mbps is a good enough service for streaming HD TV, does anyone have that experience? (Thanks for the tip on Amazon Fire TV Stick, TousTnT.)
