the Tesco's in JB are pitiful so no big loss, if true. These huge international companies take forever to act on what they decide - closing down could take a year. Likely any decent stores would be sold to someone else (or some new company will buy leases... on top x number of current locations...).

Tesco pulled out of the USA (they invested in new small stores they created - Fresh and Easy) it took a long time to actually get out.

I don't see anything on Bloomberg's web site about it.

Simple Google search shows no reference to Tesco pulling out of Malaysia. They are, however, pulling back in other countries such as China and the US.

Sure it's not the first time Bloomberg has got it wrong.

I think we can safely assume Tesco will be in Malaysia for several more years yet. There is no sign of a pull-out, nor any sign that any other media channel either in Malaysia or in the UK has picked up, or repeated, the ‘pull-out’ news ex-reg alleges he saw on Bloomberg in early October. And it would be major news.

It’s much more likely that any reference regarding a ‘pull-out from Malaysia’ made by Bloomberg in fact related to Carrefour selling its Malaysian operations to Japan's Aeon Co. Ltd. That’s nothing to do with Tesco.

Tesco’s interim results (2nd October 2013) are positive about the growth potential in Malaysia. With 47 stores here and £937m revenue in 2012/13, there’s still plenty of growth opportunity for Tesco in Malaysia - especially from its own-label products, ready meals and internet retailing. Indeed, the Tesco plc website (aimed principally at investors) states:

'Our business in Malaysia continues to offer us a significant long-term opportunity, particularly as we launch dotcom operations in 2013. Our physical presence comes through a network of hypermarkets, which are serviced by two state of the art distribution centres in Selangor. Since the launch of the business in 2002, we’ve opened many stores across Peninsular Malaysia, with combined floor space of almost 4 million square feet. We operate in partnership with local conglomerate, Sime Darby, which has allowed us to leverage strong local knowledge on entering a new market.'

Time to can the ‘pull-out’ red herring.

Do Tesco sell pull-out canned red herrings? Are they in the tinned section or the fish section?

Do any of the supermarkets here offer home delivery service or online ordering & home delivery service?

That would be so helpful!

TIA
