Lots of cameras have been erected around this area over the last couple of weeks - to monitor rallies perhaps?

Same here! Last two weeks, business is almost non-existent! No calls or anything. And our follow up calls are also met with 'please call back after elections'!

I've also been advised: 'Everything will be fine and there won't be any trouble. But stay home on the 5th just in case'!!!

Hopefully this won't stir up a hornets' nest.... I just wonder if anyone is at all apprehensive about the outcome of the elections and in particular whether they think it would affect their status? If the opposition actually win, 1 of the parties (I think it is PAS, albeit that it would appear to be a relatively minor partner at the moment), wants an Islamic state with full Syria law. If that happened, then do you think they would try to revoke some of the visas?

Any thoughts anyone? Or is this a taboo subject?

The opposition coalition has and is already in control of various States. One of those States under opposition control is Pulau Pinang (Penang).... DAP controlled. I would say that Penang is probably one of the more liberal states.

In Penang they bought in some rules for MM2Hers in Penang state that overruled the national rules, so that MM2Hers could buy property at a lower threshold i.e. making it more attractive to foreigners to obtain the MM2H visa. Why would they revoke visas?

A lot of the talk around PAS is propaganda by the ruling party. They already govern some areas and it hasn't affected people negatively.

The main concern and propaganda being spouted is that if the opposition get into government, they'll impose Sharia law. What they've actually said is that they'll implement Hudud, which is Islamic punishment, for certain crimes, and only if this is preferred by Malaysians and voted in by public.

My main concern is that the coalition opposition is made up of such diverse parties; strict religious PAS, ultra-secular democratic DAP and Anwar Ibrahim & sons! How can they work and govern together with such diverse ideas and principles?

I would feel more comfortable with the stability and steady economic growth that currently exists. And would hope that Najib continues to reform the country and slowly get rid of corruption etc.

For anyone that is interested, Penang has just declared Monday as an extra public holiday. This follows other states: Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Kedah.

Of course every day is a holiday for Mrs bakedbean

Went to the supermarket today and stocked up (we wont be running out of noodles and tonic water for a while). Saw more than one person walking around with two trolleys!

I saw someone on Facebook mentioning about choosing carefully colour of t-shirt tomorrow . I've reserved a nice neutral grey one for my morning adventure to the supermarket.... Assuming it will be open.
