Can I ask, please, do you just drive through , if your car is registered in MY? . Did you need to have insurance in both countries. And how long is the drive?
When driving through Thailand close the border, do you get a sense of heightened security due to violence, feel like it's dangerous?

From the north side of Penang island to the Thai border (Sadao) it takes us about 2 hours. Total journey time from Penang to Phuket would be around 11 or 12 hours I guess, but we always stop halfway in Trang.
We've never felt any danger on the route we take (from Sadao just head north towards Had Yai, then westward through the national park to Trang). As far as I know, most of the trouble is over the south-east side in Pattani.
I think I'll start a new thread about Driving to Thailand and Procedures. If I don't get it done today, I'll do it tomorrow. Internet a bit dodgy today.
