Default Muslims Detained In Malaysia

A strange story here. About 200 folk have been detained for deviating from the "government approved" path of Islam. Makes a nice change from reading about non-Muslims being arrested in a Muslim country.

Hmm, I hadn't read that and googling brings up very few references to it.

Not saying it isn't true (and with my views on Malaysia, I can believe it is), but strange. Being hushed up, perhaps?

I'll ask my journo friend, based in Indonesia - I'm sure he'll know

It sounds a bit odd, doesn't it.

I wonder if this is a deviation from the faith. I was buying some toiletries in Watsons (pharmacy) this week. I went to the checkout to pay and the server was a Malay (Muslim) lady in the full Muslim dress and she gave me a big grin. On top of her head and all the headgear was one of those Father Christmas hats She just knew how funny it looked. Love that. Penangites have a great sense of humour.

Certainly an interesting article and AP don't usually invent too many stories!

I have always seen extreme efforts to nip any radical militant style of Islam in the bud, so I would assume the story is accurate.
