I was presently surprised that my MM2H FD rate increase from 4.1% to 4.3% after my 1 year rollover anniversary date at CIMB.
I have to admit I was expecting a bad rate since MM2H FD are locked in for the duration of the MM2H visa...ie..."Sorry your rate is now 2.0%...you are stuck with us".

If it is not HSBC where tears are guaranteed at the end it is always your relationship manage who will bring happiness or sadness.
So with that 4.3% don“t forget to bring him some mooncakes, but not the ugly ones from KL or Penang, go to Ming Yue in Ipoh

How are you finding Penang, WiredTight, after a year there? If you don't mind me asking. Any unexpected annoyances or pretty much smooth sailing? I've not been back to Penang for over seven years, although have been in Malaysia, since that time. Intend to rectify that hopefully sooner than later. Do you feel you are in for the long haul?

If I was King for the Day, I might tweak a couple things, but overall I am happy with Penang. Unless things change dramatically within the next 6 months, I plan on renewing my apartment lease for another 2 years.
If a person is looking for a Thailand, beach or big city experience...then Penang won't be for you. Although their are a few bars/pubs around, your best bet for a cold beer is at a local outdoor cafe or restaurant. A couple of my friends that live in Thailand would find Penang boring...I call it laid back or relaxing. If you need a change of scenery, then it is relatively cheap and easy to catch a flight to any country within 1 - 3 hours in this part of the world.
Penang reminds me of Singapore during my 1st visit in 1992...although without the Sarong Girls...LoL.
