How does Bangkok compared to Kuala Lumpur?

I currently live in Bangkok and really enjoy it, I think I'd stay here permanently if the government was hospitable to Westerners settling down here. But English comprehension is low, setting up a business is a real chore, and other foreigners are telling me it's just not a good place to set down your roots.
I know Kuala Lumpur is in a Muslim country, but I've heard it's fairly moderate. I just like to know how the place compares especially in its treatment of foreigners. I have an added interest in understanding how Malaysian Indians are treated, as I'm Indian American and will be assumed to be a local most of the time.

Hi again Twixy. I've shifted your topic into the Malaysia section from the general Far East section as, to be honest, most folks don't look in that section. It's mostly for odds n sods topics that don't fit anywhere else, and I think you will get more response in here. So, hope that is OK.
I cannot really speak for KL as I have never lived there though have visited maybe half a dozen times. Actually I'm not a big KL fan at all, though I do realize that some folks love the place. I guess I'm not a city person.
I have a couple of friends who are British Indian and on the MM2H visa. They moved to Melaka, I guess 2 or 3 years ago, and they love it there and don't seem to have any problems to speak of. One of them told me it was a bit of a laugh at first as locals would keep speaking to them in Malay....thinking that they were Malaysian Indian

Learn Malay and they will assume you are posh local (as you will never have a real local accent). Then you will be treated better than if you are white, at least for prices for goods
KL is a much easier city than Bangkok, but is still a very large spread out city.
