You have to wonder if there's some other reason behind it that they aren't disclosing.

Penang Airport (PIA).
How to avoid the traffic and enjoy a leisurely breakfast instead.

Hi,

The Monday to Friday morning rush hour in the Bayan Lapas area with thousands of cars and bikes battling to get to the factories starts at 7.30am and ends around 9.15am. This usually means 30 minutes or more stuck a traffic jam if you’re going to PIA at that time.

Here’s a tip:

There’s a surprisingly good café restaurant called Kaffa at PIA. It’s located on the upper (departures) level, on the left immediately as you drive up the ramp. Once you are in the Departure Hall you have to exit the airport back onto the road and turn right to get to it. As a result, many people don’t realise it’s there, and it’s something of an oasis from the scrum in the airport, with good food and polite service.

So aim to get to the airport early (before 7.30am), and check-in if your desk is open. Then go buy a newspaper or magazine from WH Smith, and head over to Kaffa to relax over a decent cappuccino and eggs benedict. Yummy. They are happy to provide toast butter and jam too if you ask (it’s not on the menu).

Re: Flights & Flying

I don't know if this is a bargain or not. You tell me.

I've just booked some flights Penang to Sydney (via Singapore) with Singapore Airlines. Great flight times, short layover in Singapore 1.5 hours, picked my seats (strategically picking ones with an empty seat next to it - well, it works sometimes), and just a smidgen over MYR 2000. That's about 337 quid in real money.

Was telling friends this morning and one of them said that Singapore Airlines is currently doing some good deals to Oz.

I'm sure you can do cheaper with some budget airlines but does one wish to fly budget on a 11 hour journey?

Re: Flights & Flying

Is there any difference in price of booking returns flight from LON or KUL? I ask because I am relocating to KUL at the end of the month but will need to return to the UK for 2-4 days every 6-8 weeks. I'm wondering whether it is best to book a single to KUL and then book return flights once I am there or just book return flights from the UK. Initial checks seem to suggest return flights from LON might be the way to go but results from Kayak, etc. might be affected by my UK-based IP address...

Depends on the situation with sales campaigns, discounts, etc.
For example, Qatar Airways normally has some good sales for travel out of KL during the year in January/February.
I don't know if and when there are any campaigns for flights from Europe

Thanks Gunnar45. My benchmark thus far has been direct flights with Malaysian Airlines. LON > KUL return is c.£470 whereas KUL > LON return seems to be £150-200 more for the same dates. I got caught out like this before when I lived in Melbourne for a couple of years and would prefer not to repeat this error if possible!

From the UK, it may be an idea to check prices with Lee’s Travel - a long established London based specialist Far East consolidator for a number of major airlines including Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines. Often their prices are very competitive, and they know about special deals and promotions ahead of the launch date. See Lee's Travel

Towards the end of March Airasia are introducing direct flights from Penang to Yangon three times a week. Flights only take 2 1/2 hours and cost US$66. An absolute bargain and massive time saver compared to flying Malaysia Airlines and having to go via KL.

Im sure The more times you visit a website for flights the more expensive it becomes. They know your checking because of cookies and scare you into buying a more expensive ticket. ???
