This offer is very misleading.

The promotion is only for return flights but the price of RM699 is the one-way price. The cheapest return leg appears to be RM857.

The online booking says you have to book 2 pax for the free fare to apply but right up to the point of entering credit card details the price remains that for 2 pax (I abandoned at this point).

If anyone actually books this successfully please post back here.

BTW flight time is 5:45H.

Sorry to hear it's not clear. It maybe easiest to visit the Malindo sales office in George Town to be sure you get what you think you will.

Penang Sales Office
No 73, Penang Street,
10200, Pulau Pinang.
Business hours : Mon - Fri 9am to 6pm, Sat - Sun 11am to 4pm

Same as all budget airline 'deals' in UK. And probably worldwide.

Why they can't tell you the full costs up front staggers me.

I think going to their office would be a good idea. I subsequently tried booking their special offer to Columbo, Sri Lanka for RM674 per pax and got this message each time I tried:-

If anyone has friends/relatives living in Canada (and presumably this might work for the USA) I have just booked some tickets through Travelocity.com for Toronto - Penang - KL - Toronto that were 2/3 the price quoted by several other flight comparison sites for the same carrier and flight numbers. The flights are in April and cost just $1200 per passenger.

Re: Flights & Flying

Just a quick check and EVA Air does Toronto KL return in April for CA$ 1117

MAS does Penang/KL return for RM 250 ish.

Which is about the same as your price if your $ was CA$

Yes I agree but the flights I have booked are Cathay Pacific Toronto to Penang via Hong Kong on the outward journey and KL to Toronto via Hong Kong on the return. This was by far the best combination of cost and flight duration. My lowest cost option would have arrived an extra day later. It also worked well because at the same time that my son is flying from Toronto his sister is flying in from London and I have them arriving within a couple of hours of each other.

The total flight times are 22h 10 coming from Toronto and 21h 50 min return. EVA are close on the outbound flight but entail a 20hr stop over in Taipei on the return. That is simply not an option. Cheap flights might save money but you will never regain those 20 hrs lost on your life.

Unless, of course, you do something exciting, rewarding or just plain fun in those 20 hours? Oh, but we're talking about Taipei :p

I had a great time in Taipei and Hualien.

But that's another story, never to be told.

Penang airport - is it cheaper to take a taxi or park?

A taxi is around RM50 (RM80 after midnight) each way.
Parking is RM24 per day.

Well, no need for the question mark as the necessary computation data is there.
Except of course fuel costs and soft issues like the hassle of having to drive, to return sober and the risk of getting bird sh*t on the car.

That's absurd...it's standard practice for airlines to flight-plan to a destination with the fuel and passengers/baggage...we only offload freight to lighten the A/C.
If the crew encounter unusual headwinds, or a navigation diversion, or the destination airport weather was below minimums, then an en-route stop for more fuel is made...I've done that many times.

It normally only causes some delay to the final destination.....not wait a week for luggage...
