To many things to comment on where to start.

If she has traveled out of assume Manila on her own before then she understands how immigration there works, the Philippines are as mentioned very strict of their own people leaving as tourists as the PH government makes so much money out of the OFW (overseas foreign workers levy) so many girls try & leave as tourist then apply & get a work permit overseas, these girls also know every trick in the book, you see maybe about 6 of them on the plane all sitting chatting all the way, when it lands they go down the escalators or whatever to the immigration booths they fan out all going in different queues & not speaking to each other. If she has only traveled out with you in the past then she may have a slight issue.
It helps to show either credit cards, cash, bank account or some way of proving she is self-sufficient, a letter from you if it has a photocopy of your passport etc with covering letter cannot do any harm, possibly showing any hotel booking etc, all helps.
You have to see the situation through immigration guys eyes. Here in Asia there are thousands of Thai, Cambodian, VTs, PH girls all moving around as tourist trying to earn a living one way or another, so as you mention sometimes its 20 questions. She will be able to come in for 30 days then you go apply for an extension maybe lucky 30 days then same again, so you might be lucky & end up with a 3 month stay, each time you apply you really should show a return air ticket, so if you’ve flown her on bucket airlines with a no transferable ticket it’s a problem, or you fly her with a fully flexible Silk Air ticket then fine.
There is a large PH working community here in Penang in the electronics industry etc, I was in a reasonable restaurant in George Town the other week, & surprised several of the staff were PH.
The PH have their own community & help groups, companies & people who specialize in work permits etc, the same in KL there is a well-known shopping center in KL where they all congregate, once she is Malaysia you both need to meet up with some local PH living & working here, & find out at first hand all your options, basically as a tourist as mentioned previously you cannot sponsor her, even with MM2H only if you are married.

Hope this helps, any questions will try to answer.

Never mind, at least there's an aspiration for genuine free movement in the ASEAN nations, if little reality at present. I think it'll be a decade or two yet though.

Thanks for clarifying Mike.

Just a brief follow-up...
My Philippine GF arrived around the 1st of the month with no problems. When she arrived at KL2 immigration she was ask by a woman official just a couple brief questions...How long are you staying: 30 Days, Do you have a return tickets: Yes (Open ticket), Where/Who are you staying with: Western boyfriend condo/apt. Have a nice visit.
We've already made plans to take a week out of country holiday are the end of the month (resets both of our VISA counter).
Additional Info: AirAsia will allow you to change your Open Ticket 2 times before you are charged a change-fee. Malaysia Airlines I was told that you are able to change unlimited times.

Good to see that they are practicing what they claimed. This process will get easier each year as ASEAN beds down.
