Default Vodafone Bill Nightmare - Help !!

Been living in Italy for nearly 10 years, lost my job and started wandering in India for the past couple of months.

This morning found an internet cafe for the first time in a month and discovered a vodafone italia mobile bill for €2400.

It's clear someone has cloned my SIM and I had no way to find out until now... no idea how they did it , but it's done now.

I cannot call 190 from India, and there are no possibilities to cancel online - does anyone know how I can contact Vodafone Italia to cancel my SIM dall'estero ? No doubt I will need a denuncia etc which is going to be interesting from here....

I don't doubt for one minute they will be understanding.

Anyone have any experience of similar situations / advice ?

Please let us know how you solve this. A 'denucia' can be done at an Italian embassy. Or through Indian police who should then pass it on to Italian police.

update : only way to do this for an abbonamento is send a fax to the 800 number requesting the account is suspended. Nobody inside Vodafone seems to travel outside Puglia and cannot understand it is NOT POSSIBLE to send a fax to a Numero Verde from outside Italy. Racc. Post will take too long as 100euro calls are being made hourly

Got a friend in Italy to "pretend" to be me and suspend the account. You would think that was good news.

New Problem created (as usual with Italy) : now they are required to take their (my) carta d'identita and make a denuncia at the local carabinieri !! They could not claim they (well - me disguised as them) were calling from abroad (as I physically am) as their caller ID came up as local Italian when they were actually me. Following it ? Makes me feel better to write it down. One day I will laugh at the stupidity of it all.

To make matters worse - received a mail from Vodafone claiming the outstanding 6 months of the abbonamento !!!

Scan your letter, scan it and email it to your friend in Italy and let them fax it, maybe? Also mention in the letter that your friend in Italy has full permission to act on your behalf.
