Re: Trains to Paris

I hate the fairground rides must admit!! Had a huge row over the chairlifts in Pila a year or so ago - used to jump on with abandon, now they scare the shit out of me! As I didn't have skis on I had to get on on my own, so wouldn't do it! OH does what he always does and tried to shame me into doing it "for the kids" - I couldn't...I'm scared of falling off at the end and have also been whacked by them as you jump on. He can pull that one on me for flying, which I feel is a necessary evil, but for something where the kids didn't even notice that mum wasn't there...

If turbulence is your fear, like mine, I found a few really good websites written by pilots on here to help people understand what is really happening and all about the stresses etc a plane in flight can take. As airflight is STILL the safest form of travel in the world it is worth hunting these sites down. They really helped me. I also always look at the time on the flight like this - 30 mins for take off and getting to flying height, 30 mins to get down to landing height and land. If you do this you'll notice that most of the bumps come in the first 30 mins and the last 30 and are due to the plane passing through cloud etc. Short domestic flights are the worse as the plane can never reach a good cruising altitude so they are always bumpy, but the pilots on those flights normally will only do those flights so they are used to it, plus it is mainly auto these days anyway!!:D

I am sooooo glad it's not just me then on the planes and at the themeparks. Don't mind heights though.... as I explain to OH it's fear of death pure and simple!! :lol: I get on chairlifts (I've done the one at Pila) but I don't like Skis and skiing. I don't feel in control. If I'm walking I'm in control. I don't even feel that much in control on a pushbike for goodness sake! Why won't your OH do the teacups 37100. I had him down as a daredevil, or is it the shame of the teacups?? I can do shame. ;)

I can do the cabin, it's the one that goes further up after the cabin I wouldn't do! Antonia toddled on with Alex, but then I was the same when I was younger. I really don't know why we change. I have heard it's the Mothering instinct - don't do things that seem unnatural. Problem is you can't stop your kids doing it can you??! So it's a useless impractical impulse in these situations!!:p

yeah, I can do both cabin and chair lifts.... I tell you where I did go a bit odd though. Golden Gate Bleeding Bridge. You spend years dreaming of walking across it, you get halfway, it's moving about in the wind a bit, you find yourself holding onto a pole refusing to move. :o :rofl: It is the mothering instinct I think, but if it was to save one of my kids I'd probably strap on a pair of skis and slalom if I had to!! -although I couldn't swear to it!! :rofl::rofl:

You're right, he is a daredevil. It terrifies me when he stands on the balcony rail to pull the sunshades down when they get stuck.:eek: He thinks nothing of the big rides, but the tea cups:rofl: Say's they make him feel ill. Not shame, because he'll take friends little children on all the kid's rides even if it means spending the afternoon on the peter pan ride or the caterpillar. It's the going up part of the rides and cable car etc that I don't like. Hate seeing the ground go further and further away.

Years ago, I took an American friend up St Paul Cathedral. She got to the top OK, but then had a panic attack and refused to move for the next couple of hours.:ohmy:

I had this with a friend at the Tower of London. I didn't think it was that high if I'm honest but in the end we had to back her down the spiral, stone staircases apologising to all the people trying to come up (it's all one way) as we were taking her back down. I've happily trekked across the roof of the Duomo in Milan with the kids though. Your OH would not have liked the Octopus ride at Movieland then 37100. Julia loved it and went on about 6 times. Once with oh and 5times with me as he felt poorly after the 1st time. I also had to stick my fat butt in the caterpillar and hold my arms up and shout out 'woo hoo' too quite a few times.... but refused to get on the Swinging boat thingy! :huh:

I don't now!! The last time I went on rollercoasters was at Blackpool and I found that the next day I was in agony as going on something had aggravated an old whiplash injury in my neck. Was horrible. I avoid but they did try to beg me to go on the Mammut Rollercoaster at Gardaland. I just took the rucksack off dh, gave him my look and stalked off to find a nice place to sit and wait for them in the shade.

I GOT MY TICKETS :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I went to the station this morning ready for the usual negative shake of the head - in fact thats what I got. But then the lady said - lets give it one more try seeing as you've come all the way here and then she nearly fell off her chair as it accepted the booking! Well I felt like blubbering - like I'd won the lottery or something :) So am now the proud owner of 2 tickets to Paris ! Hurray !

Re: Trains to Paris

Thanks 37100. Well originally was going next Monday but thats now not do-able so opted for next Friday and will stay 4 weeks. Unfortunately because we are so close to departure the discounts werent avalaible but for the return she managed to get us seats at 45€ each - which isnt bad is it? (on the way out they are....80€ each gulp) Still think they are out of order not opening up sales for July until the 1st of July (and in this case the 2nd July for the provinces). Anyway - dont care cos I'm sooo happy that I'm going to see my mum :thumbup: I booked the boat and the hotel in Saint Malo the only thing I havent booked is the train from Paris to St Malo cos I'm hoping that if I can make it across Paris in time theres a direct train to St Malo at 3pm.:fingerscrossed:

ps: tonight I feel a little celebration is in order - nice white chardonnay chilling in the fridge and then this time next week my favourite ....CIDER :)
