Recommendations for Builder, Electrician, Plumber in Puglia, Salento
Hello All,
Can anyone recommend a building company or individual tradesman in Salento, south of Lecce?
We've just bought a house in Marittima, a hamlet near Diso / Castro. The house is a fixer-upper so we'll need most trades involved including a metal worker.
The local immobiliare put us in touch with a few builders, but we're not convinced they are quite right...
Recommendations are everything, so if anyone reading this has had an overall positive experience with a building company or individual tradesman in southern Salento I would love to hear from you.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Rob

My advice would be to find a decent geometra.Basically this is an individual who is akin to a cross between a project manager/planning expert/paperwork guru.
Doing up a house in Italy is not the same as the UK as you need to submit plans to the commune if you are changing the interior(as this could affect your local taxes) plus when the work is all done it will need signing off and up to date plans submitted.A good geometra will find reliable tradesmen check that they are not overcharging you,and check the standard of work done and will oversee the project especially if you are not there.Obviously you will need top pay them but IMO it is money well spent

Thanks. Very useful advice. Allora... would you advise I start a 'Recommendations for decent geometra' post? Or just discuss the subject of a Geometra with the few people we know in the area: a translator, 2 x immobiliare, and a builder who is already carrying out maintenance on the roof?
We did have a meeting with an architect, but their fee estimate was too high at 20K euro, so thought we would DIY, but as you've pointed out we will probably need help with at least the 'paper work guru' bit.
Thanks again, Rob
