Re-registering an ex Italian car

Re-registering an ex Italian car
I'm Connie's OH and I've just bought a 23 year old Alfa Romeo Spider in the UK. Originally it was bought new in Milan by a chap from Britain who was working there for 3 years. He then took it back to the UK where he re-registered it on a British license plate. Now I am bringing it back home to Italy. I wish to re-register it as Italian. There is a lot of the original Italian paperwork available; what appears to be the original 'logbook', even old service receipts from a garage in Milan. Where do I start to go about getting an Italian license for it please. I live near Castiglione M.R. in Teramo, Abruzzo. Oh, and if it is important and I suspect it may be I do have residency status. Thanks.

I would find the nearest ACI office and asked them for the procedure. I know that you can pay an agency to do the paperwork for you and OH mentioned yesterday that to change foreign plates to Italian, cost around 800 euro.

Re: Re-registering an ex Italian car
Not sure about reregistering but this is the information I was given by HR for registering:
• Costs involved
• Time to Process Transaction: 60 - 90 days
Not tried it myself so can't say whether it is true
• Costs involved
.1 Customs fee which amounts to about 30% of the market value of the vehicle at time of nationalization. Value of the vehicle will be established by the Italian Customs Office according to the Euro Tax (Italian Blue Book).
2. The transfer to the national system amounts to about 500 Euro.
3. Customs Broker: May be necessary to expedite the process
• Basic Document required: Certification of Residency2. The transfer to the national system amounts to about 500 Euro.

Re: Re-registering an ex Italian car
If the car is used and has done more than 6000 Kms; then no customs fees due in EU countries. Documentation required is quite complex, and you'll need sworn translations of V5, MOT certificate, and if you have it the CoC. I would imagine having some original Italian paperwork will be a help, especially if it is LHD. You will also need to change the rear light cluster so that the fog light illuminates on the left; and of course change or re-align your headlamps. I did a DIY job with a motorhome and it took 4 months and about 1200 eurines. In your case I would take the advice already given, and go to ACI or an accredited agenzia automobilistica (they refused to tackle my motorhome hence DIY).
