I am pondering applying for a long stay work visa for which I believe a 'nulla osta' is needed. Anybody know how you obtain this when in the UK?

I understood this was something you needed to get married, not work? This UK Gov link seems to indicate this is the case, but might be of use, not looked at the form.

It roughly translates as 'no impediment' and yes you may need one to get married in Italy but there is also one for working and that is the one I am interested in.

I'm a bit sketchy about permits. Info is 2nd hand as Brits haven't needed one before. However, my understanding is that it is the employer who needs to apply for the nulla osta.

From what I can gather you would need a provisional nulla osta from whatever office governs your choice of lavoro autonomo, So it could be the Camera di Commerce if you need to be in an albo for your chosen job. The brutal bit is that it cant be more than 3 months old when you ask for your visa.
