Language is continuously evolving and one has to move with the times whether you personally like it or not. I remember I used to hate the word "kids" (young of a goat) for children , but nobody bats an eyelid today. As for sneakers or trainers, weren't they plimsolls?

I don't mind them learning that Americans say sneakers, bandaid, candy etc.

What I don't need them learning is American insults to add to their growing repertoire of British and Italian ones .... and I think I'd hate it if they called me Mom.

P.S. Plimsolls were pumps at my school. When we were little we had white or black ones without any laces - just an elasticated front part. The white ones were forever getting scrubbed or cleaned up with that white liquid stuff that came out of a "shoe polish" tube with a spongey bit at the end.

Normally I'd reply "Fine thanks."

Today I'd say "Full of stinking flu."

Why?

Hi
Do you ask me "How are you" in italian or in english?

- "Come stai?" "Bene grazie, e tu?"
- "How are you?" "Fine, thanks. And you?"

That annoys me too, but not as much as awesome does.

. it's a vicious circle!

The problem is that so many young British people are using 'awesome' and 'good' (instead of well) that it's hard to know what's right and what's "wrong".

.. and yes, "way better" is American! .. 'much better' is ..better!
