Re: New EU inheritance / succession law
Nationality is the same as citizenship. An Italian national has an Italian passport.
Many people have dual nationality, my own children for example who have an Italian father and an English mother. Not all countries allow for dual nationality ie if you be ome a citizen of a second country you have to renounce the first.
Dual nationals, according to the new Regulation, can choose the nationality whose law they want to apply to their future succession.
Just to recap:
A person can now choose by making a statement in their will that they would like their national law to apply to their succession.
If they do not do this, by default the law of the place of their habitual residence (ie the centre of their interests, main abode, work, family, social life etc) at the time of death will apply to their worldwide estate.
